It’s been an interesting summer for all of us on the tip of the spear. We can take solace in knowing that our region’s crops have been coming in beautifully as Humboldt’s cultivators continue to shine in their craft and the demand for complaint flower remains intact. We want to take this edition of the Understory to address some intersections have been showing up as we approach fall. We’re digging into these issues a bit to help set restless minds at ease.

As the evenings turn chilly, and the full-season flowers are ripening, our thoughts turn toward sales. Recording sales might feel like a less important task than conducting them in this moment, but knowing what to record will allow you to gather the information you’ll need for reporting. Besides invoices, there are many other aspects to cover with regard to tracking and recording sales in the regulated market, including cultivation tax assessment and remittance, as well as records about your buyer.

In this edition of The Understory we’d like to talk about Mastery and Track & Trace Implementation. Specifically the path forward to become a weighmaster and what you should be thinking about as harvests are coming in and products are going out. First of all, we are happy to report (through experience) that our local agriculture department, as well as SICPA, have been patient and supportive with the track and trace system. It’s a case of you-get-what-you-give, as we are all feeling the growing pains of implementation.

We’d like to talk transport with you this morning. In the Bureau of Cannabis Control’s regulations, section §5311, it is stated: “Transportation shall only be conducted by persons holding a distributor license under the Act, or employees of those persons.” Does this mean gone are the days of meeting at the bottom of the hill, rolling one and catching up on the family? Not necessarily, but like many things, it’s going to look a little different.

As regulated cannabis takes hold, we recognize an increased need for locally-based continued business and compliance support among Southern Humboldt cultivators and operators. In upholding our community's tradition of resource sharing, we are offering periodic updates to regulations and other impactful industry news. We are also available to dive deeper into your compliance needs and will send information about the services are providing in a separate email. We imagine some of this will not be news to you, but let’s start with the basics.
